Bill Viola- Ocean without a Shore

The video master's work. We all want to see it. First impression: familiar routines. Whole body shots, people coming in and out of the water, ofcourse water. Fear that it will be a reitaration of the manierisms he has developed. Still there are strong emotional moments. People coming out of a water screen, the water droping against their eyes and hands like blood from a dutch painting of Christ. Then the people turn away. Nowhere to go. No despair but acceptance of reality and fate.
